Why I built Compare Files

Your files belong to you.

Nearly every online file tool asks you to upload sensitive documents to someone else's servers. Compare Files doesn't. Every comparison happens locally in your browser — the servers never receive your files. That's not a promise we make. It's how the product is built.

My name is Oleksii, and I've spent more than 15 years building software products. Today I work as a Senior Product Engineer building systems at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity.

Ironically, the more I worked with sensitive customer data, the less comfortable I became uploading documents to random online utilities. Contracts. Financial statements. Legal documents. Source code. Medical records. HR files. Every day, people upload these to websites simply because they need to compare two documents. I thought there had to be a better way — so I built one.

Secure by architecture, not policy

Most competitors promise they won't misuse your uploads. Compare Files is designed so it never receives your files at all. If the server never sees your documents, it can't leak them, store them, or train on them. That is a fundamentally stronger guarantee than a privacy policy — and it's the core design principle behind every tool here.

What that means in practice

  • Processing happens entirely inside your browser. Files are read and compared in JavaScript on your device.
  • Your files are never uploaded. No copy exists outside your computer.
  • Nothing is stored. We keep no database of your document content.
  • No third-party file processing. Your documents are never handed to another service.
  • Nothing is used for AI training or shared with third parties.

Deterministic logic where it beats AI

I work with AI professionally, which is exactly why I know where it doesn't belong. AI is excellent for generating ideas — but comparing two invoices isn't a job for intelligence, it's a job for logic. AI can hallucinate; a deterministic algorithm returns the same exact answer every time. Whenever an algorithm can give a precise, verifiable result, that's what Compare Files uses.

Built for professionals

Whether you're an accountant, lawyer, recruiter, developer, or financial analyst, you shouldn't have to choose between convenience and confidentiality. Compare Files exists so you don't have to.

The mission: build professional browser-based tools that solve real problems while keeping sensitive information exactly where it belongs — on your own computer.
