Compare Files × IOGate · Free for a limited time · No account needed

Share the document. Not the personal data.

The Document Anonymiser strips out every name, email, phone number, SSN, and account number — as real text, image pixels, and hidden metadata — running entirely in your browser. Compare Files is offering it free for a limited time, in partnership with IOGate, whose detection engine powers it. Nothing is uploaded, whether you’re signed in or not.

Detect, review, and download a clean file.

Three places personal data hides — all handled.

1
As text

Names, emails, phone numbers, SSNs, card and account numbers are truly replaced with placeholders — not covered by a box that still leaks the underlying text.

2
In image pixels

Text baked into a scan or photo is found with in-browser OCR and painted over, so it can’t be recovered from the picture.

3
In metadata

EXIF and GPS tags, PDF /Info and XMP, and DOCX authoring history are stripped, so no identity leaks in the file’s hidden fields.

We cannot see your documents. Architecturally.

Anonymising a file usually means handing it to a server first — the exact risk you were trying to avoid. Here there is no server: detection and redaction run locally in JavaScript inside your browser tab. It is not a policy promise, it is an architectural fact.

The same detection engine, running on your device.

The Document Anonymiser is powered by IOGate — a PII detection and tokenization engine for finding and removing personal data. Compare Files runs this tool free for a limited time in partnership with IOGate; here it runs as an in-browser build, so your files never leave the tab. Need it at scale, in your own product or pipeline? IOGate ships as an API and SDK too.

Your files never leave your device. Ever.

Compare Files works entirely in your browser. There is no server that receives, processes, or stores your file data. Not because we promise not to look — but because we architecturally cannot. All comparison logic runs locally in JavaScript.

No AI means no hallucinations.

Compare Files uses a deterministic, logic-based engine — not a language model. It reads both files and reports every change that is actually there. It can’t summarize away a deleted line, invent a difference that isn’t in the file, or “mostly” get a number right. What you see is exactly what changed — nothing added, nothing missed. For redaction, that means no third-party AI service ever sees the very personal data you are trying to remove.

Private

Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser — no uploads, nothing stored.

Certain

No AI, so no hallucinations. A deterministic engine reports every real change and never invents one.

Fast

No upload, no server wait. Comparisons run locally and keep working offline once the page has loaded.

Common questions.

Is it really free?

Yes — Compare Files is running the Document Anonymiser free for a limited time, in partnership with IOGate. No subscription and no account required. Detection and redaction run entirely in your browser, so there are no per-file fees and nothing to pay for. Every other comparison tool on Compare Files keeps its own pricing.

What counts as personal data, and how is it removed?

Names, email addresses, phone numbers, SSNs, credit-card and account numbers, IBANs, IP addresses, addresses and dates of birth. Text is truly replaced with a placeholder (never a black box laid over live text, which still leaks). Text baked into images is covered pixel-by-pixel, and document metadata — EXIF/GPS, PDF /Info and XMP, DOCX authors — is stripped too.

Do my files get uploaded anywhere?

No. Detection runs in your browser using an in-browser build of IOGate. Your document never leaves your device — there is no server that receives the file, so there is no breach risk and no data-processing agreement to worry about.

Which file types are supported?

PDF, Word (DOCX), plain text, Markdown, CSV, HTML/XML, JSON, and common image formats (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP). Scanned PDFs and photos are run through in-browser OCR so text baked into the pixels is found and covered too.

Can I check what was removed before I share the file?

Yes. Every detected item is listed in a review table with its type and a confidence score, and you get a side-by-side preview of the original versus the redacted document. Redaction is best-effort, so the review step is mandatory before download — you download an anonymised file plus an optional local mapping key that never leaves your browser.
